After having my truck toed to the dealer they finally found the problem .the truck was having a long cranking problem when it got warmed up.last week it would crank but not start when i stopped for a paper. The truck was toed to the dealer that night they checked the truck in the morning and it started they could not find the problem.I picked up the truck and when i got home shut it off and tried restarting all it did was crank.I had the dealer toe it in and they look at it when it came in they found a defective o ring on the stand pipe when the truck got warmed up it would leak and the truck would not start. The truck is a o 06 with 36,000 mils on it is this common.
To be more specific the model year you own had a high pressure pump (STC) snap to connect fitting that would fail and you would experience a hot no start. An O-Ring would exhibit the same symptoms as you describe, are you the original owner and know the complete history? Work may have been performed prior to your knowledge or you received the luck of the draw for an O-ring to failure.

This is a common problem for the 6.0L and the 4.5L Power Stroke Diesel engines. The symptoms are similar to an STC fitting failure. Inspecting all of the high pressure oil seals on the standpipes, block off tubes, fuel injectors and the STC fitting should be performed when diagnosing this concern. It is not unheard of to have multiple seals and or the STC fitting fail. I am sure there are many threads on this subject...
Thanks guys for responding so fast but why would the truck start the next day is the motor resetting its self when it cools off?Would it hurt the truck if on a long trip and it happens can you let it cool down and restart and never shut it off until you get home. Would it damage the motor. thanks
