I was driving my 87F250 yesterday and when I let off the gas I would feel a noticeable clunking that was more harsher at lower speeds when I let off the gas. I then went to park the truck at night and I put it in reverse and immediately felt it bang or clunk into gear. Any idea of what this sounds like, it kind of came all of a sudden. Today after work I jacked up the rear end and put the truck in drive, whenever I would give it gas in gear and let off it would bang pretty harshly. I couldnt really pinpoint where it was coming from but it looked like the driveshaft may have been causing the clunking but not sure? Any idea from these problems what this sounds like it could be?
I put new U-joints on the rear driveshaft tonight and the problem is still there. Before I put them in I took the truck for a drive and it was fine for the first 20 minutes or so then began banging when I let off the gas. It happened Sunday as well about 20 minutes after I began driving it. By the time I got back to my driveway the truck shut off, it would start back up everytime and then shut off when I took my foot off the brake after putting it in gear. I don know if this could be related or just another random problem that is occuring?
I didnt do the u-joints in the front driveshaft, they just come into play when its in 4 wheel drive, correct? I also had a rebuilt rear put in 2 months ago that ive put about 200 miles on but I wouldnt think that would cause the clunk when I shift into reverse without the truck even moving. Any ideas or things I could look for would be appreciated. thanks

It certainly could, take the truck back to whoever put the rear diff in for ya and have em check it out. Not set up right, something might have came loose etc etc, they need to look at it and look at it now. It might be something simple and a quick fix if you get it right to em, call em, they may want to have it towed to em at their expense under warranty work.
That is if it wasn't one of them "friend of a friend of a friend" kinda deals.....
