I know this is the section for the F-Series trucks but I am having no luck locating information on the C600 series. Is there anyone here familiar with the brake system on this truck model, in particular the location of the brake fluid reservoir? Here's the issue: A brake line cracked and all the fluid drained from the system while it was being driven back to Canada. The line is easy to repair but the real trouble is locating the brake fluid reservoir.
I traced the entire brake system from the pedal all the way to the rear mounted brake booster and master cylinder assembly. I am half thinking the incab cylinder (at the brake pedal) is the brake fluid reservoir but I am unsure how to refill the system.
Its a 1972 C600 Ford Heavy Duty truck. Engine is a 330 Cu-In V8 with a 4 speed tranny. The truck is a decomishioned firetruck that is being refurbished for a small busniess. We need to get the cracked brake line repaired and the system bled so it can be driven to a truck bay for a steam wash prior to its inspection. Anyone have some info on this?
The bottom portion of the box that the brake pedal rod goes into is the reservoir for the brake fluid. It is under the dash panel attached to the brake pedal itself. You have already described it. There is a plug that looks like a bolt or in some cases, a plug with an allen screw hole in the center. Look closely and you will see it. Remove this plug and fill with Brake Fluid.........It's on the bottom portion...Good Luck!
The brakes on this truck suck, this is what you must do,the fluid goes in above the pedal as you suspected, get a bottle of fluid get a squeeze bottle from a dollar store with a straw that's flexible first fix the bad line personally I recommend you just replace every line on the truck eventually you will wind up doing this anyway, bleed the line going from the master cylinder to the hydraulic booster first if you don't do this your screwed nothing will work right. The brake booster on my truck is located under the bed right in front of the rear tires the frame. After you. Had completed this you will know you have this correct when your break lights will work correctly. After you do that your read brakes may have two wheel cylinders bleed them first them bleed the front you should be ok after that, but I would highly recommend replacing all the lines because the material u seed. And the fluid used back then sucked, I hope it heps
