Are you referring to the curve in the driver's side inner tire that connects to the drag link or the oil, seeping from the pitman shaft area, on the pitman arm and tie rod boot? No tracking bar on a 2wd. They have I-beams and radius arms.

My pitman arm looked just like that right before the PS pump went out.

I should have stated that the reason everything looks wet is because I spilled the fluid when doing a fluid flush. No fluid is leaking, just from the spill

It looks to me like there is quite a bit of grease coming out of the drag link (attaches to the pitman arm). There should be a boot on that joint to keep the grease in. I can't tell if it is there or not from that picture.

There is a boot there but it busted open and that is where the grease is coming out of. Could this be the reason there is play in that connection whent he wheel is turned?

The busted boot isn't the problem, the lack of lubrication is it. You're rounding out the hole in your track bar most likely. Time to replace both pieces.... ASAP!!! Fortunately its an easy job and you don't even need to jack up the truck at all to do it. I waited to do mine... and it then involved some welding & fabrication to get it fixed properly. Don't do that.

Git 'r done.

Hey Matt -

Sorry about that, you don't have the trackbar like I do on my 4x4. I should have said to replace that bar with the leaking boot ASAP. I really should eat before I type!!

No problem Brendan.

Does anyone know what this bar is called? Or what the whole setup is called?

The one going from the pitman arm to the passenger side of the truck is probably called a drag link. The other one is probably just a tie rod. Those are SWAG's though so take it for what its worth.

The arm on the steering sector (box) is the pitman arm. It is usually a non-wearing item unless it gets loose.(tapered splines on the big end and tapered hole on the small end) The long tie rod connected to this arm is called a "drag link". If there is slack in this joint connecting to the arm, only the drag link should need replacing.

You don't have the "drag link" setup like the 4x4. You just have 2 tie rods. The pitman arm (bracket from the steering box) has a bar connecting it directly to the passenger steering knuckle. This will probably be called the "drag link" or "right outer tie rod". The bar that goes to the left steering knuckle will probably be called the "left outer tie rod".

These are just guesses, but I just bought all new steering components for my 4wd and those 2 bars were referred to as the left and right outer tie rods (the 4wd has a couple of extra pieces).

As a side note, the "track bar" usually refers to a bar that connects the top of the differential to the frame to help keep the axle centered.
