I admit I hate to fight my way through the DVD to find the right pin out for a connector. Seems I can always find everything but what I'm looking for.
Anyways, the wife's truck has a new radio and I left the wire to the VSS unhooked thinking it wasn't needed. Turns out I need to hook up the stupid wire. I've found it's on circuit 679 which is pin #58 on the PCM and a GY/BK wire.
2 questions. 1) I'm color challenged, so GY/BK means gray/black? I can count pin numbers, but will have the wife verify color, so I need to know what color to verify.
2) Is there not a spot inside the cab I can tap into the VSS signal? I have yet to find the pin out to the OBDII connector, so if anyone knows of a wire inside to tap into, please let me know (both in terms of pin location and wire color.

GY/BK is gray with a black tracer Chris. I can;t help you with the other stuff right now all my diagrams are not with me at the moment. I can check layer on if no one else posts up by then.
Chris,
Look at the wiring diagram for the instrument cluster. Wire from the ABS module for the VSS connects to the instrument cluster through the plug for the gauges. If you have the same Ford dvd as me, look at Cell #60-2. Same GY/BK wire. Looks like pin 10 of the plug.

I just found that this morning but you beat me to it. Thanks Roland.
What has the radio got to do with the VSS in the rear axle?
The vehicle speed sensor.
Or am I missing something here?
This is why I left it unhooked to begin with. I had the same thoughts. Yes it is a navigation / DVD / radio fancy thing that even comes with a remote ( the radio still mounts in the factory location, and is still well within arms reach, but for some reason it has a remote control )
Anyway, it came from the older kid who discovered the radio was not compatible with the iphone or some such nonsense, so my wife ended up with it. My wife would have never attempted to ever watch a DVD inside her truck, but the kind wanted to show her how to do it. (We had some difficulty setting the clock and working a few other features ) Turns out you cannot watch a DVD if the VSS wire is not hooked up. It gives a message about the vehicle must not be moving to watch a video. Probably a good idea based on some of the things I've seen some people doing while driving.
Since it's always nice to see threads completed with the right info (I haven't gotten around to doing this yet, but will at some point) Here's the diagrams for anyone running across this in a future search.
Yes, that's from the Ford Service DVD. The same info is available from alldatadiy.com for an annual subscription. They're one of our sponsors up in the SuperDuty section.
