narrowing the problem

narrowing the problem.

here i am driving this 89 bronco with the 5.0 and aod trans at 35mph. the second i take my foot off the gas the transmission instantly puts resistance against the engine like its down shifting in the wrong speed range and i rapidly lose speed on the speedometer. when i just bump the engine 200rpm, it will make a huge pound that i can feel in my seat and steering wheel.

same situation anywhere between 30mph and up. shouldn't i be feeling this gentle coasting feeling when i let off the gas? coast forever and ever until i need speed again? but since it grabs the gear and holds it, it drags the engine speed down as well as fast as i am going comes down with it. (a semi using its jake brake type feeling)

i am wondering that there is a problem with the spring for the transmision TV cable on the transmission? can i add a spring on either side to help or should i buy a new line?
is my valve body clogged?
i did a trans flush 4 years ago and only put 6000 miles on it since.

does the fluid level above the hatched area mean something bad?

i'd definitely have made a video of this already but everything is subtle enough that the camera will not detect the problem.

maybe i can secure it next to the transmission when i drive it. the noise is very present and the smash is even more noticeable but when looking at the RPMs when this is happening it looks normal.

TV cable needs adjusting. Buy a new line.

Fluid level should not be above the hatched area, suck some out to lower it. Do that first. Check the level when fully warmed up, should be in between limits of hatched area. Should be between holes when cold.

i read the whole couple pages out of this manual on the tv cable:

http://www.autobooksbishko.com/image...al%20cover.jpg

and the best thing i can find is that i need 10 pounds of pressure pulling the arm on the transmission.

all 3 of the hypothetical situations for problems in this manual all sounded and were described like what i am having (it said the remedy was too long or too short tv cable).

would it be a good idea to ad a shift improver adative to the trans fluid? any specific ones?

(i forgot to mention i did a flush and new trans filter 6000 miles ago)

where can i get a new tv cable? they are very hard to find on google.

do not add any additive to the fluid. if anything do a fluid service. if the tranny is acting up take it to a shop. dont drive it either, the AOD will fry if the tv cable is not adjusted properly.

slightly above the hash marks isnt anything to worry about.

Are you positive that it is an AOD? AODs only have Neutral safety switch and the Lever position switch(dont know the exact name) as the only electronics to it. The EPC was an E4OD item not an AOD item.

good call Alxsnmr

are you positive you have an AOD? on an 89 if it is the e4od the od button would be on the dash.

wich one is the TV cable? can someone post a pink or a link to one? i've had some little issues with my overhauled tranny (an E4od), that could be the reason. Also, can i adjust it myself?.

tv cable comes out next the the shift linkage and goes to the throttle, most people mistakenly call it a kickdown cable. its been over a year since i lost the aod in my capri, so im not sure if i shouild tell you how to adjust it, but i will recommend a quick search for it.

Encho you will not have a TV cable with the E4od. the e4od is an electronic controlled tranny. start a new thread with your symptoms and we will help ya out.

the speed sensor for your year only talks to the RABS. there is a safty switch on that rig, i know my 88 had one in the event of a roll over or accident.

speed sensor or an internal problem.

i am pretty sure i have the tv cable adjusted correctly according to the blue book. the shift points are right on.

as instant as i take my foot off the gas pedal it makes a chug then rapidly de-accelerates to about 25mph then resumes normal coasting after another chug.
