Rear end weight?

My sticker on my 93 extended cab 4x4 says that my gross rear axle weight is about 2700 lbs. Has anybody weighed your ranger? If so, how much did the rear end weigh unloaded. I'm sorry for asking such a simple question but I don't have an owners manual for this truck. Can anybody share what the unloaded rear weight is?

Thanks!

I hate to tell you this but that sticker is referring to what the rear axle can support in total weight. There is a front axle weight rating and a rear axle weight rating along with a GVW which is gross vehicle weight which is what the total weight carrying capability is of the truck with cargo and passengers and there is also a GVWR which is the same as the GVW other than they factor in how much the vehicle can weigh and tow at the same time. the only true way to find how much your truck weighs is to put it on a scale.

Actually, GVRW has nothing at all to do with towing. GVW & GVRW are mostly synonymous and people use the terms interchangeably.

Take the truck to a truck scale, tell them you want the axle load of each axle, they will have you drive the front axle on the scale, then the whole truck. From those two measurements they can compute the weight on each axle.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to try and find a CAT scale today somewhere and see how much this truck weighs empty. I'll post the weights here. It will probably be useful info. I'll fill the truck up and weigh it with nothing in the bed. Just for curiosity sake.

I guess why do you care what it weights. I never overload any of my trucks until I start them.

I want to know what the actual available payload is. I want to tow a very small fifth wheel with my ranger and I need to be sure I have enough capacity to handle the pin weight. I've found some fifth wheels that weigh about 3500 lbs loaded.

Thanks!

Here is the actual CAT scale weight of a 4x4 ranger extended cab, automatic 4.0, with a full tank of gas and a 200 lb driver.

Front Axle - 2560
Rear Axle - 1600

gross 4160

The owners manual will give you the gvw and towing capacities. Trailers whether pull or 5th wheel the tongue weight is the payload. But the total weight of the trailer is the limiting factor. Pulling the trailer isn't the problem stopping is.
I wouldn't want to pull 3500 with mine but it is a little ranger 4 banger. Barely pull itself along with the air on.
