Transmission Problems
I joined as I was reasearching the issue with my 2004 F150 FX4 4x4. About 2 weeks ago I started hearing a whining sound that progressed with the engine but only in gear or reverse and when it is neutral or park it is quiet. It got a bit louder recently so I took it to a Ford dealer for a spin around the block. I told the service tech that I thought it was the torque converter or the fluid pump in the front of the transmission and he agreed. Helps when you restore cars and know what your talking about or else they try and tell you anything they want. I went to another transmission shop and played stupid and they told me that they'd have to tear down the whole transmission and rebuild it and could be about $3000! Ford quoted me $1300 plus tax and the last well known transmission shop quoted me only $725. (What a difference!)
Before I jump the gun and take it in I wanted to see who else has had this issue and how was it resolved. It seems as it is the smaller HD transmission in my truck that they use for the Police Crown Vic Intercepters.
Thanks!
