This is kind of a question for this part of the board, I think - I'm wanting to know about compatibility with 87-96 parts
As soon as I get my shop built I'm wanting to build a dentside project with a newer FI motor.
Looking under the hood of my buddie's F250 with a 460 got me kind of jonesing to put a big block in my future project.
I found a basket case 79 truck on Craigslist for what I'm thinking would be about what it would cost me to haul it away. The body is junk, but it does have a 460 and C6 in it.
Would that block be compatible with the SD FI system out of an 80s/90s truck?
Not sure if I'm better off buying this truck for the block/trans and any other useful bits and pieces for my project and then trying to score the FI intake/harness/'puter at a later date or if I should just wait for a later model donor vehicle where I could get the motor AND FI stuff all at once.
Thanks guys! Yeah, if I have to buy the whole top end plus the FI stuff I'll wait till I find a cheap '87 + donor. Or I'll just wait till my buddy roaches his and then get the parts off of him
BUT I think this might be a good start. Found a '94 460 that's been "glassed" so the motor is shot, but I can get the intake, harness, sensors, and 'puter for around $125 if I pull it myself.
Would it be worth pulling the heads as well and see if I could have them fixed or does that sodium silicate or whatever they kill them with completely ruin the heads? Price sounds fair for all the other stuff and I'd bet he'd about give the heads away, but I have enough scrap laying around the yard without collecting more
Heads are destroyed too. They pour the solution into the crankcase, so wherever oil goes the solution goes, and whatever the solution touches is ruined.
Will do. I just realized I've got tomorrow off, so I plan on being there bright and early and seeing what they've got. I've got a list of odds and ends I need for the truck I just did the engine swap in so it wouldn't be a wasted trip.
If it does solidify then I guess the heads would be toast - glass filled oil galleries are probably a bad thing
