That's why I went ahead and bit the bullet and bought a Cardone reman box for my truck.
Lots of times you can reseal these boxes and they'll last for a long time. On the other hand, they may not last but a year or less, because of the pitting.
So, supposing I get the kit and try to re-seal the gearbox on the truck without removing, what am I getting into?
Looks like there is a big nut that has to come off first, then I'm assuming the pickel fork tool would then be needed to get the sector shaft off... then what's next? And can I do it all from underside? Thanks.
I resealed mine using the CarQuest kit without removing the box. I had to loosen the box-to-frame bolts to be able to fit the pitman arm puller onto the arm. I removed the column and did the top seal through the cab floor access hole. Took me less than an hour.
