Hey guys I have a 89 f-150 w/ swapped in 460 efi. Right now I have a push button switch that runs the starter. My question is how could I rig up a flip switch that would turn everything on to prepare to start it as if i turned the key to the on position? Thanks in advance!
You could do that yea but doing so involves several wires/circuts, why not just repair the key tumbler, acuator rod and ignition switch?
If you had to replace all three, you might not even need all of them, it wouldn't cost that much anyway and would be so much easier to do in the long run.
If your dead set on doing that I'd suggest a Haynes or chilton's manual for it, one that includes full wiring diagrams (not all of them do) you can get chilton's with full color wiring diagrams.
That way you have it all right there in front of you as you work.
It looks like there are two wires you'd need to pick up with that switch - one would be a red/lite green wire that goes to the computer relay and the other would be a white/lite blue wire that runs to the distributor.
That's from a quick look at a Haynes schematic for 87-89 model years - I wouldn't do it without the book in front of me and a meter to verify which wire is doing what and when before I started surgery. I don't think it would be very hard, but I'm with danr1, I'd just fix the switch. Mine is wired similar to yours (previous owner) and it's one of the first things on my list to fix.
