New with questions??

First off hi and thanks for having this forum!!

Second, how do I find out what gears are on my 2000 F250 V10. I do tow and would like to have the best possible package for towing. I do notice that when I tow my camper it is ok on flat road but any hill or garde increase kicks it into overdrive..

Third, I need to know how to safely take off the steering wheel pad to get to my horn contacts. when I put the fuse back in the horn constantly goes off. This started a few months back.

Thanks in advance for any help you guys and gals can offer!!

There should be a small tab on your rear axle cover plate with #s and possible a letter.

As for you steering wheel sorry can't help never had to do it. Haynes manual should help you out, can get them at any auto store usually.

First, WELCOME to FTE!

The small tag under a bolt on the rear cover might have the first number covered by the bolt head. So it'll say something like "L 73" or "L 30" or "L 10" or " 10" or " 73" or " 30" ...

The "73" is a 3.73, the "30" a 4.30 and the "10" a 4.10. The "L" stands for limited-slip.

Otherwise, just get the axle code from the door sticker and look it up in the Tech folder in the Superduty forum.

Oh, the horn thing is either the contacts like you said, or the clockspring is broken (although that usually makes it NOT work).

Welcome to FTE!

Rule of thumb for towing with the 4R100 tranny is that when you hit the hills or driving in town with a heavy load turn off the OD. It saves the tranny from getting to hot from shifting (hunting) in and out of OD.

What I do...is right before I hit the hill or steep grade, I turn off the OD and let the V10 do its thing by revving it up in the 4000+ rpm range. When I hit the flats...I turn OD back on and cruise down the road.

Hope this helps...
