1988 F150 Reg Cab 4wd 302 C6 Auto. The driver's side exhaust manifold is making the tell-tale "running under water" sound, indicating a crack and leak. I intend to replace both manifolds, and thought that I might go with shorty headers. Can anyone recommend a shorty header that will not be too loud, is of good quality, and reasonable price? Also, where to buy?
I don't mind a little growl, but I want to steer clear of something quite loud. Long tubes are not really an option, I don't think, as this truck is used primarily in the woods, and must not have an exhaust hanging down.
just don't get pacesetter or summit shorties they are both junk (i've tried them both before i just went longtubes) if you do a good job with the exhaust long tubes will be fine
I went with the ford racing shorties on my 1996 F350 with 351. they are stainless steel. total to my door was about $410. a lot of money, but they will never rust and i'm expecting the gains in performance and MPG to help pay for them over time. i plan on keeping the truck for a long time, so i didn't mind doing it right. also get a set of stainless bolts.
I bought the Headmans, they were cheap and got the job done. Been 5 years now and still sounding good. If I had it to do all aover again, I would have wrapped them, they do get hot from time to time.
