Need some Insight

I currently have two trucks. 1987 F250 with a NP435 3.55 gears 302HO motor with F4TE Cam with a dump box that weighs in at 6,000#. 1989 F350 Cab and Chassis with a NP435 EFI 300-6 motor and 4.10 gears. It also weighs in at 6000#.

The F350 is far from factory. The F350 had a 7.3L IDI and C6 and was only 2wd.

The F250 just has a 1995 F150 Motor with Upper and Lower intake from a 89 Mustang and A9L Computer and Maf Setup

Well The F350 is at 3400 RPM at 65mph, It runs fine and pretty good power but the engine is developing a knock now which I believe is coming from the High RPM at highway speeds.

Power wise the 302 HP will walk all over the 300-6 in towing and accelerating. Even with the Taller gears and taller tires in the F250.

I am itching for a 302HO for the F350, Just because the 302 will run fine at 3000 plus rpm for decades where I think the high RPM is putting my 300 in the grave.

I would like to leave the 300-6 inplace because I like the low end torque but anything over 3000rpm torque is starting to drop off. Is say 3600 constant RPM Ok for a 300-6? Just because If you dont drive atleast 70mph in my area they will run you off the road.

F350 is a dually and 4x4.. I am thinking of swapping engines one from the other. Its plug and play and would only take a weekend. The old 300-6 would probably like that

There's more to swapping those motor than that, the wiring and conputers are different, as are the engine mounts and towers, rad and hoses. I agree the I6 definitely needs higher gearing so do whatever it takes to get it away from those 4.10's.

Wiring harness is the same on the 87-89 for 300-6 and V8's Just the engine harness is different. When I converted my 87 to Mass air I used the factory connections to the truck harness so it should be a easy swap
