so i just read that if there a leak in the injectors that could casue a knock during start up, now if that my case when i start it up it wont hurt the engine??? or trying to start it could potentually blow something? i dont want to try starting if this coudl do some real bad damage. just want to know thinking of starting it up tomorrow when i get some new oil and oilfilter
I Dont know about the injectors themselves, but when my return lines were leaking, it would take a little longer to fire up and I would get some knocking when it finally caught. It hasn't done it since I stopped the leaking.
Two things can happen with injectors that can cause a knock.
The injector is leaking fuel into the cylinder and is at the verge of hydrolocking the engine since fluids do not compress or the injector is letting compression back into the injector since the pintle is not closing.
The first one can cause engine damage if there is enough fluid on top of the piston to fill the combustion chamber (area above the piston at TDC) completely full.
When the piston hits the fluid on the way up, it stops dead when the top of the fluid hits the head.
Most likely damage is a broken piston, bent connecting rod or broken crank.
