I've had this vehicle for about 3 yrs. now, bought it used with 60k miles, it now has 82k. I've had to run mid grade gas or above from the start because of knocking, I just lived with it.
I had a 3" Flowmaster catback installed and put in an AirRaid air intake, alot more fun to drive. I also bought a Power Programmer. Now trouble, I can't use it. I get to much knocking. Used premium with an octane booster(suggested by Hypertech) and ended up fouling 3 sets of plugs trying different brands of booster. Changed the fuel filter, didn't help.
Could the problem be low fuel press., bad knock sensor...?
Bought a boat and even with the programmer not installed, running premium in November, still having some knocking. What's it gonna do come summer when it gets hot?
Any help on this knocking problem would be appreciated.
Does anyone have any ideas at all on this? I've posted this question in four different areas here and haven't gotten a single response!
My '98 knocked from day one. I have run 89 octane fuel since 25k and it only does it while towing on long hills now. The dealer said it was supposed to make a little "valve noise". I would rather pay $.10 more a gallon to not hear it. Try this site, http://www.flatratetech.com/ . I was told about it a year ago on this forum and have found it very informative.
My '97 is completely stock except for the 3" catback and has only knocked when I tried using 85 or 86 rating in the mountains of the west. Never has knocked on 87 even in extreme conditions of steep mountain pulling in -25 degrees F. or at 123 degrees above.
