well now i got a 66 that i am working on for a friend / client Rob. this one will not be on air-bags. i already got a pair of 4" dropped i-beams and front disc brakes for it. this one will be lowered but it will be a driver so not too much. its already got a V-8 in it...
some questions if anyone can help...
i bought the front beams and disc from a guy that was building one too. id like to see if anyone has a pic of front disc brakes on these trucks? im not sure if what i got is missing parts or what not. all he told me is that it was from a later model truck?
what are some of you guys doing in the back to lower these trucks with out having to raise the bed floor too much? i plan to flip the axle over the leafs possibly on some blocks and remove a couple leafs too. then notch the frame for clearance.
DJM hangers, shackles, and shocks. Flipping will be much cheaper but more work. I did not C notch with this kit since its only a 4 inch drop. Have not bottomed out yet so I think I'm good to go.
excellent! thanks for the pics. do you have any other pics of the front disc brakes? id like to see how the calipers are mounted on the spindles. thanks again!

front disc looks something like this.
thats is freaking beautiful man. how much was the whole kit? i looked on the site but didn't see a price.
I didn't think there were dropped i-beams for the 66. Have I missed something? I would love to lower my 66 as well.
can anybody clarify this? this is the first i hear about 66 not able to use dropped i beams. i measured basic dimensions and the beams i got seem the same in sizes.
please let me know before i take this truck apart, please.
had been waiting for rims and tires for the front (cause now its 5 lug), so tonight i was able to tear off the old stock beams and drums and hang the new dropped beams with rotors.
old parts out and new parts ready to go in:
here you can see the ground clearance (plenty) and ton of positive camber:
i was hoping to tuck some front tire, but the front end is too wide, now running 205/70-15 on 5 lug Ford steelies:
i got a few questions, hope some of you have some guidance for me...
there seems to be a lot of positive camber. i am using the stock springs and smaller tires. what can i do to fix that much camber?
what am i suppose to do with the tie rods now? they dont fit in the trailing arm and cant go over, looks like they want to go right through the top of the trailing arm, can i cut that or pipe it?
I didn't know anyone was making 4" Drop beams for these trucks. I have AIM 3 inch beams in mine. You will need tie rod relocators for the steering linkage. The will attach to your spindle. You can order them from AIM. Do you know what brand those beams are? They look like AIM. I believe DJM's are round. As far as the camber, is there full weight on the tires? Does the truck have a motor in it? We'll assume yes. Since you said that you were waiting for 5-lug wheels I'll assume this truck is an F250 which was originally equipped with 8 lug wheels. Those beams are most likely designed to be used with F100 coils, the F250 springs are too heavy duty. Of course, going to the F100 springs will most likely lower your ride height some more. You will need shocks which are shorter than stock.
thank you Jhooch!!! its hard to say what brand these beams are. i got them from another truck guy. my total slam is 5" so far. thats beams and smaller tires.
now with the f-100 springs i should get another inch or so.
so ill order tie rod relocators.
after the f-100 springs ill buy shorter shocks to fit.
thanks!!!
so, does anyone have stock f-100 springs for sale???
Im not sure what brand those are but I dont think they are DJM's. I have DJM's for my truck and they are rectanglular tubes welded together, those look like one solid piece. Im kinda new to this trucks but ive never seen them like that before. Maybe somebody else here has. Goodluck with the truck I like the look of it with the old patina.
Those beams in the picture are identical to my AIM beams, I'm sure that's what they are. As far as I know, DJM and AIM are the only two companies making the drop beams.
