When I first moved here to New Hampshire with the long cold winters I thought it would be awful not to be able to work on my projects during the winter. However, as it turns out, a late spring, summer, and early fall is about all I want to work on my old truck. I used to live in Florida where I could work all year round but encountered burnout on a regular basis. It's good to take a break now and then...

Whatever you do don't try to work on it if you don't feel like it because everthing you touch will turn to s*** right there in your hands!

Trust me. I've been there.

Red face Yep...

......must be sumptin' in the air lately...

The more I try the less I seem to get done...

Sat down over the weekend and for the first time & added up receipts
only 'cause "The_Girl" was wondering where I was at financially
in my '56 project...to which I answered..."who cares...I have NO idea"...

Bad move......
Appearantly she really wanted an answer...

Anyway...I agree...this is not the time for racin'...
there will be plenty of that later on...but it still gets annoying at times...

Now I see what the problem is! You got 3 years work done in 1. You deserve a break. That cab looks great! How are the doors? Do they fit?

Ha, Merten, THANKS... maybe that's my problem... LOL.

Doors didn't fit when I took them off!!! The passenger was binding at the front when you opened it. Both doors are primed. I did re-hang the passenger door to see if the patch panel contour would match up... (I was really worried about this after I finished the patch... ) But it looks good.

We've all been up against this wall. I haven't touched my truck ssince Fabruary or March...and its driveable! Sometimes life happens, sometimes we just get busy, sometimes other things come first, sometimes there's just no motivation or inspiration. When life happens you just have to ride it out...you'll get time again for it...someday.
When its motivation and inspiration there's a few things that can help. Talking to others....this site is great for that. Looking at pics or attendign a car show sometimes helps.
Sometimes we just get overwhelmed with the sheer immensity of the task ahead of us. Take the task and break it down into small managable parts, and tick them off one by one. Before you know it you've gotten an amazing amount of work down and are back in the game.

Above all, don't worry about it too much. The truck will always be there when you decide to go back to it, its feeling won't even be hurt.

Now, go out to the shop, grab a frosty beverage of your choice, set in the cab (yup, even if you have to get a bucket to sit on) and start making Vroom, vroom noises and enjoy the ride

Bobby

I have the opposite problem.
I want to go work on the '53, but job and family responsibilities keep me away.

the wall.

Been there. I found a little trick, by accident. Couldn't get motivated, so I just planned to clean the shop. Do a little organizing. Drink a cool one and just sit and look at it. This took several weekends. Once all that crap was done, I'm sitting there looking at it and saw a little thing, a 5 minute job. So I did it, and then another. Just piddly stuff that amounted to nothing, but somehow it got me back in the groove. I guess I stopped thinking about the build and just focused on a couple of easy little things, and got some momentum going.
Putting a coat of wax on it this week. It's done.

The times that I've 'hit the wall' (not scarcity of money or parts or time; just lack of motivation); each time it's been when the next step I'd planned wasn't really the right direction for the truck. When I'd realized I was off-course and corrected it; I got moving again.

Some compromise you're making that you'd rather not be making, maybe?

Steve,

I think anyone who is an auto enthusiast will go through this from time to time. I can't remember how many times I've told my wife that I'm gonna sell the truck and maybe buy a fishing boat. She just laughs, cause she knows that the truck has been an occupant of my garge for over 23 years.( and it's still not finished.)

As someone has already said, "Life gets in the way". Over the years I've had a lot of other projects slide my truck to the back burner. For years I had multiple car projects going, various construction projects, and I'm currently trying finish off a complete kitchen overhaul.

I haven't spent much time on my truck since last winter. Been busy cutting grass, fishing, camping, fishing, building kitchen cabinets, fishing and doing other necessary things.(Did I mention fishing?) I'll get back to it when I get tired of people asking me what I've done to my truck lately. I do my best work when it gets cold and I can hunker down in the garage, wood burning stove blazing, turn up the radio and devise some more darksided details.

Steve, you live close, give me a call, come over and look at my junk and maybe I can even talk you into coming over to the darkside. Heck, you may even inspire me to get back to work on my own truck.

Andrew

Andrew you can probably get Steve to come over but you wont get him to come to the darkside. I have been trying I know for 3-4 years to get Steve to come to the darkside with no success. I even live closer to him than you do.

OK. OK...you guys.... My flattie has a tripple deuce carb set-up, headers, a mild cam, bored and a Merc crank..... (Yeah, and Randy says that doesn't even qualify for gray.) My engine guy wants me to go electronic ignition... I didn't have the heart to tell him I'm still 6 volt.

Karen, you are a wise woman. I think you have hit the nail on the head. I have been wrestling with finish.. flat or gloss... AND is my sanding enough, am I flat enough... will there be wavy spots...
More sanding Grasshopper... more sanding....

AAAARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

Love all you guys and gals.
