I own a 1992 bronco with the 5.8 and e40d. I have done some work to the motor and i was hoping to get an idea of the power it is putting down. I have BBK shorty headers going into a custom Y-pipe into a three inch exhaust, high flow muffler, and no Cats. Also was in a bind and had to replace my heads because someone put the head gasket on backwards on the driver side head and it cooked the exhaust valves. I could not find a reasonably priced set of gt40 or e7 heads in the time frame I needed to get the truck running. So I put of a pair of e5ae-ca heads that had the exhaust port bump smoothed out considerably for better flow. truck runs great, sounds great, and has decent power. What do you think i putting out at the fly wheel? I think because of the lower compression heads on there I'm maybe a little higher than stock power. Any thoughts?
These heads won't be significantly better than what came off the motor and without changing the cam the overall powerband won't be much different than stock. The stock exhaust systems on these trucks is a cork however so that alone will make a considerable difference, it should have better throttle response and a bit more TQ. Overall I bet you picked up 10-20 hp and the same amount of TQ.. enough to notice but not hugh, is that what your seat-of-the-pants dyno is telling you?
Well I am a little relieved, because after I installed the E5AE-CA heads I started reading on this forum that they were not that great of a head, even with the port work i have done to them. I plan on installing a cam and Gt-40 heads on this truck in the next year or so. From the advice Conaski has given other people with a mild build up in mind I am looking at around 280 Hp and 400 Pounds of torque with a good speed density cam. I am interested in knowing if i can achieve those same numbers with a cheaper pair of stock E7 heads instead of going the harder to find gt-40 head?
Also I read on one post that if you use BBK shorty headers, like I have, there is no clearance issues for the spark plugs on gt-40p heads. This was only one post and I was wondering if there is any truth to it?

Yes.. I did, but you'll need longtubes to get the TQ number.

No 2 sets of headers are the same so clearance on these heads will be a unique issue, but as long as they aren't equal length shorties they can work. There may be some monor clearancing needed around a few header pipes but that's it generally.
