My roter blew chunks and took the caliper with it. after a week of fighting with auto parts places I finally got the nut wrench today. after sepnding about an hour trying to get it to turn I have found 2 things obvious. 1 I will have to use a cheeter bar. 2 I need a support to keep the wrench in place. Does any one have suggestions on this I am thinking of using a piece of wood with a notch in it to prop up the nut. Is there a better way?
Well, I have always done them by holding it in with one hand while turning it with a two foot breaker bar with the other hand. You can always hold with one hand and press down with a foot while leaning on the fender. When they get that hard, I use an impact wrench unless it is off road.
Dana 35 is the only one I can think of that requires 150+ pounds to put on.
No mention of year, model, or axle type. Or if it is the inner or outer that has has you stuck.
So, I am going to assume a TTB Dana 44. If it is that hard to get off, you might have some unseen damage. If you are careful you can cut the nut off with a dremel, many times if you do not cut all the way through it will still release enough tension that you can take it off without a breaker bar. The nuts are not that expensive.
sorry Dana 60 on my 94 F350. I dont have a nice garage setup yet so no impact wrench. It is the first nut that you get to when you remove the cover and the 2 parts that lock to the spindle to put it in 4wd.
3ft cheeter plus the support from below allowed me to break it free. Now i just have to get the rotor off the studs and hub. stupid thing is rusted on solid.
