I'm going to look at a 65 Lincoln Continental either this weekend or the following. Does anyone know a good Lincoln forum? I'm just trying to get some information on what to look for before I go see it. Also aftermarket support as I currently don't think there is much but I might be wrong. The car is listed as having a straight body, rust free, new gas tank, new brakes, new brake MC, new booster, new shocks, and carb rebuild. Original 430 motor and it runs. Needs a windshield. The interior looks to be in ok condition for its age and is complete with the exception of the front passenger door panel missing. Back seat looks like it has a couple boxes of spare stuff. The guy wants $3500 obo. Thanks.
Looks like that site is primarily late-model and doesnt go back to the 1960s. I dont think he is going to get any real help there.
My dad had a '64 and it was not a very reliable car. Luxury goodies, like vacuum power door locks, were not very highly developed back then. One real "oddball" thing about the car was the hydraulic pump in the engine, that drove the power steering and windshield wipers. It was not a standard Ford belt-driven power steering pump.
The transmission was also a problem, but I think in '65 it got a C-6. You need to check on that.
Overall, they are one of the best looking cars ever mass-produced. I love the suicide doors. Also, the all welded unit body meant no squeaks and rattles, like Cadillac.
Beautiful car, I would like to find one of those someday, but Jims right about those vacuum powered accessories. They are tricky to work on and usually dont work right lol! Dont let those things make you pass up the opportunity to own a great car! Take your time with the restoration, and find a good service manual and you'll be fine.
