Fellas,
sigh, the engine is crapping itself hard. The CDR valve wont stay clean at all, so smoke smoke smoke. Since the headgasket issue, i have driven only a few times and very short trips but no overheating, no bubbles, no puking fluid. Well this last week all of that changed. I have tried to take the CDR valve off and block it off at the intake and vent the gasses through filters, hoses etc but it is so smoky it looks like there is an exhaust leak. I live about 40 miles from the dealership/repair places. Should i try to repair this? Should i start over? I cant afford the towing to town so maybe take it down to the road and call the insurance guys for roadside assitance? Sign up with CAA? How much can i expect to get an engine put in for? I dont have the tools and lifts to do it on my own. There is a guy in shawnigan lake with a 7.3 that was a strong runner but he hasnt started it in a few months because his trans went out. He wants 1000 for it but i dont know what the story is with it at all aside from his word and i dont know him. I will have about 3500-4000 to throw at it soon but will that even get anything done? Should i just get a reman? Where can i get one and how much can i expect? Sorry for all the questions but all i can find is 6500. I know i get what i pay for but damn. Can i bolt in a 6.9 onto the C6 that i currently have? The issue i have with the 7.3s is the cavitation prone nature of them. I dont know if mine is salvageable but i dont want to pay 2000 to find out.
Don't bother with a reman. They are all junk and for that price, you might as well get 4 used engines and swap them out as they break lol. You could also do a mild rebuild on whatever used engine you can find, but time might be a problem for you.
6.9 would be better if you plan to keep the truck for 200k miles more, but without a turbo, you will feel a power loss. Not much, but some.
Messing with the CDR rarely has a happy ending. The system is far from perfect, but it seems to work very well all things considered.
How much blowby are you seeing? Do the vapors get pulled back in as you rev the engine up?
So after the head gasket job it drove OK. Sometime later there was a sudden and massive increase in blowby?
Siezed/broken piston rings? Hole in piston?
Can you do a compression check?
So rebuild a 6.9l and add turbo? Can i get the rebuilt 6.9l online or somewhere on Vancouver Island? I am not able to rebuild an engine on my own, nor do i have the time so if i had the money what would i be better off doing....going to ford or a independent shop? The shops around here are telling me that it is 20-25 hours for replacing a head gasket. Ford dealer is at 12.5 hours. As it stands i can save money going to ford, that is confusing to me and the guy is cool with me bringing in my own parts. I just dont want to get caught in a crap situation and have the guy open it up to find out it is trashed then have to replace it anyway. I would rather sink the 2000 into the rebulit replacement. I am not going to reman/rebuild my 7.3, i would rather sell off the whole thing to avoid cavitation and future headache. So 6.9l turbo'd is the way to go, now where do i get one for a good deal?

Havent looked at the vapors going back in but it never blows out the dip stick and there is no puffing, just steady mild smoke but it is un nerving seeing it coming out of an engine, ahhh the diesel life. One of torture and pain.
I need an engine i dont have to worry about for 100K +. I know there are always issues but i want to shoot for the moon even if i only land in the pool.
all smoking aside, and bubbling radiator overflow that wont go away now, it is still a strong motor. I vented the beast to the atmosphere because within 10-20 miles after cleaning and servicing the CDR it was pulling oil into the intake again. Smoke out the tail pipe has been significantly reduced and not looks like it jsut needs a new set of injectors. I found a 7.3l with 70,000 km and a three year warranty for parts and labor for 2200 at an online site www.engineandtransmissionworld.com so that might be a good possibility. The engine comes with carfax verification and All ENGINES are started ,inspected for compression, cylinder leak down tested, checked for oil pressure and cleaned. The site also states that all reasonable offers are accepted. What do you guys think about that one?
