99-2000 have forged rods, some 2001's have forged, and most 2001 to 2003 have powdered metal rods. So if you are looking to upgrade injectors, turbo, and anything else 400 plus horsepower then stick to a forged rod motor....
there is an inspection plug above the oil filter that you can pull and look to see. I will see if I can find the website so you know what to look for.
but there have been alot of guys who just swap out their motors for forged down the road.
