Hey guys, and gals in the BIG truck section. The 8th round of the Championship is up in the general automotive forum. I went ahead and entered my Big Job for the heck of it, so feel free to pop in a vote. It's the first time a big rig has entered into one of the contests, so give me some much needed love.
That is a BAD A$$ truck. Are you doing a complete frame off or just fixin it and runnin it. I am in the middle of restoring a 86 Buick Grand National. Its a low mileage car I've had for about 10 years now. I have been making it perfect all that time cant wait til its done.
Anyway when I am done with that I would love to find an old fire truck in your vintage to restore and donate to my FD so they can use it for parades and such.
Thanks Sarge. I have been basically doing a ground up build, but in stages. I had basically finished assembly, and now am taking care of the details. Right now, the heads are off, and I am working on restoring the engine. After that, I'll be tackling the suspension, with new bushings, and things. One step at a time, since it is a BIG project, and I have a very slow, and limited budget for it.
I hear ya. I just picked up an 85 chevy plow truck...knowing myself I will probably restore it to its former glory and wont want to plow with it any more. It was cheaper than putting a plow on my truck so I said what they hey.
Thanks HP. Hey, I looked at your linked web page. Are any of them 3208 tricks capable of being used on the 1160? I'd like to turn up the fuel just a smidge on my 1160. It'll puff black, if I really crack the throttle, but it's a constant blue/gray, which from my understanding is a light on the fuel condition. I know I have some valve seal issues too, but I'd really like to make a little black smoke. I mean come on, it's a '50's era Ford Big Job, and has a Cat, the only one in the world quite like it, I really think it needs to make smoke.
You shoulda asked a month ago, when I was up in OR(family is from Albany). It's not hard to make it smoke....trust me! Follow the fuel rate info, and you should get it. Take some pix of the pump, and I can label & walk you thru it.
Ok, I'll work on that after I get the heads back on it. Since it sat for sooooo long, I'm going throught the thing, and making sure it's nice and clean, and aint gonna have any major gasket issues.
