Okay guys after talking to a couple members i have decided on the 351w platform to replace my old and tired 302. My question is can i buy a 351W Longblock and slap down in my truck or is their more to it than that. The truck is a 1994 Ford F150 with the Mass Air flowso anyways knowing the computer will run the 351w without any problems what else will i need to complete the swap.
Yes your computer will run a 5.8.. haven't we been over this?
However... You need a complete 5.8EFI donor motor not just a longblock, none of the 5.0 EFI parts will fit a 5.8, that includes the intake, fuel rail, distributor and accessory brackets.
Hey.. just asking, there's a couple swap threads I responded to so I lost track. As for putting the 5.8 in there yes it's that simple, it shares engine mounts and tranny bolt pattern with the 5.0 so it will literally bolt right in where the 5.0 was. And I forgot.. you will also need a 28oz flywheel or flexplate for whatever tranny you have, the 5.0 version is a 50oz.

So I need a 28oz Flywheel to go with my 4r70w tranny also i would need a junked 351W to steal all the fuel injection stuff off from. Starting to seem like its going to be a pain in the but.
Na.. it's pretty easy once you have all the parts collected.
are the performance gains worth the head ache. How much more hp does a slightly modified 351w put out compared to a 302. I think my stock 302 puts out close to 200hp but i am not sure. i am hoping the 351w will at least be close to 300hp
if you do some head work or install some GT40 heads. run 9.1 compression and install a good quality cam with headers and good flowing exhaust you should get there or above. remember your driving a truck torque is important if not more then HP.
An all stock 5.8 doesn't make any more HP than a 5.0 but it produces lots more TQ so it will feel way stronger. Put a better cam in it before dropping the motor in and it'll make close to 300hp too.
Sounds like it will be well worth the headache. Like i said before i wanted reliablity and durabilty so it sounds like i have made the right choice for a swap.
Paul,
I found a 351w complete engine with 96,000 miles and a 6 month warranty for $550 plus $100 core charge. I am thinking of buying this engine taking it apart and rebuilding it adding a set of long tube headers some new fuel injectors and possable a trick flow high performance intake manifold with upper and lower intake. does this sound like a plan. sound i go ahead and buy a new starter and Alt while i am at it so that i can have a long dependable life. while i got it out i am going to use fel pro gaskets to regasket the engine so that i wont have to worry about leaks.
