I have a 63 F100 4x4 that has a tired old 223 cid that Id like to change out for a V8.
Theres a old 292 near me that I can pick up for around 100 bucks and needs to be rebuilt. The advantages of this are obvious ie original to this generation of trucks, not a lot of changing of systems etc. I would still have to cvhange radiators, bellhousing, front mount, and some harness work.
However, the 460 would be fantastic in terms of fun, HP, torque etc. Obvsiously Id have to change out the trans, radiator, wire harness, and use aftermarket mounts, crossmember, drive sharft mods etc. I think I could stick with the 9 inch rearend just maybe put a locker or other similar mod in.
So, for those of you that have done simliar swaps can you comment on the results? Were you satisfied with the finaly product?
I've never done a similar swap or known anybody that has, but if you're willing to do the work to put a 292 in it, you might as well go a few steps further and drop in a 460. Or, combine the two! Shoehorn in a 460 and put 292 badges on the front fenders just to fool everyone
