Very easy. I just put a 77 2wd auto cab on a 79 4wd 4spd truck. All i did was take the 4wd 4spd trans hump and lay it over the 2wd C6 trans hump. Trace out the hump. Remove the hump and draw a new line 1" insde the 1st one. The use a jig saw and cut the 2wd C6 cab floor . Then layed the 4wd hump over top and drilled the holes to attach it like factory. In the pic you can see the block dots i have to drill out for the screws
I've put in 3 or 4 ACC carpet kits and all of them fit very nice. If they only made the lines in the driver side vinyl floor pad go the right way it would be hard to tell from stock.
So the high-hump is tranny not 4x4? I have a 79 F250 Supercab, 4x4, C6 auto, looks like from this thread, i would want LOW hump carpet? IH's and Chebbys 4x4 makes it a high hump, at least in my dim bulb of a brain.
OK, this may be a stupid question, but why would Ford make a mass-produced truck and spend the effort to put a different trans hump in them? Why couldn't they just make them all the same and say to heck with it?
I took my hump out today and it looks exactly like the one in your picture, Brad. It was screwed to the floor and sealed with black tar (?), but it was uncut, as was the floor. Looks factory to me. I'll post a couple pics as soon as I can get them loaded.
I'm having trouble deciding which carpet I'm supposed to buy from stockinteriors.com
I have a 1979 F250, 4x4, automatic. Shift on the column obviously. And the 2WD/4WD shifter is on the hump. I don't know what is considered a low hump and a high hump, but from the looks of mine it's a low hump - it's only 3 or 4 inches high.
I guess my confusion lies in how stockinteriors.com describes their items. If you pick the option for the low tunnel, it's sort of indicating that you have a 2WD. If you pick the high tunnel, it's saying you have 4WD. Going by their website I would pick the 4WD one obviously, but from what I've read in this thread I should pick the low tunnel, right?
No, we have the high hump, as the low hump was stamped in the floor. From Brad's description and pics, the high hump tunnel is the black panel that attaches with screws. Once I got to thinking about it, all the trucks I saw that had four speeds had the same thing.
I'm not sure why I have it, but I do--and I'm glad! Less work and part scrounging for me!
Order the high hump carpet.
BTW- I got my samples from stockinteriors.com on Friday. That charcoal ultra plush pile is nice! Better carpet than I have in my house!
Your website is very helpful for me in restoring my truck. I sort of took everything out at once and I look at your pictures and say "oh, that's where it's supposed to go.."
I receive the carpet this yesterday, now I need to install it, do I need ay kind of adhesive to secure the carpet to the floor. Also, does any one has a picture of how the carpet should look at the front (at the firewall)
Just wanted to throw my hat in the ring. I just installed a molded carpet in to a 75 4x4 with a 79 2wd cab, and I purchased mine from Larry at BOTP http://www.blueovaltruckparts.com/
My box of carpet came with adhesive and great instruction that described exactly how the carpet should be installed.
I'm sure all of these kits are fairly equal in quality and value. The fit of the new kit that I purchased was perect. Matter of fact better than original. This carpet went further up the under the dash and left no openings or bare metal.
I have a bone stock original that does not fit as well as the one I purchased from BOTP.
Thanks again Larry.........
if your going to replace carpet i would suggest installing "dynamat butle insulation it will quiet interior sound a lot i did all 3 of mine and dont regret it a bit

If you're doing Dynamat I'd suggest just the regular jute backed carpet. If you do the mass backed carpet plus the Dynamat it more than likely going to be to much material to contour the floor pan lines correctly.
Well, I have a question, the carper is in the truck but installed completely, how high up the firewall does the carper goes, I'm having trouble making it fit, does any one knows how high it goes.
has anyone bought the aqua jade green from npd? is it the same jade green color as acc or summit? i need other parts from npd as well so i thought id get both but im not willing to risk it being the wrong color. they said the order from acc but with the word aqua in front and no pics or samples i can only assume its different. summit get theres from ohio auto mat. 1a gets from acc witch is good because it about 100 cheaper then acc. i have a discount for summit. lmc doesnt have the jade so its either summit 1a or npd. some sites ask if you want hi or low hump no sure how to tell but i have a c6 2wd auto so im guessing id need the low hump?
any thoughts?
