New Banks Intercooler

Well I had a rough day on Sunday. My truck was parked in a parking lot and someone in a red Dodge Ram tried to park next to me and completely demolished the drivers side. The back door, corner of the cab and side of the box all has to be replaced as they are caved in. Of course, they drove off....
BUT...a couple of people saw them and described the vehicle to me. A friend of mine saw them a little later and I took off and caught up to them. I had a few choice words for them before the realized who I was. So I took down their plates and called the cops and my insurance and gave them the info.
I am guessing they either don't have insurance or possibly are illegal. Why else would someone run from something like that when people saw it happen?

So what better way to cheer myself up than to buy the new Banks intercooler!!
I had talked to them about it before during their "Pre-release" sale. They were also having a sale this weekend. For some reason, their computer took this weekend's discount off of the sale price from the pre-release so I saved almost $400 and got free freight!

I will report in once i receive and install!

Well sorry about your luck on one issue, but glad the other is going in your favor.

So I guess you will be putting the intercooler on while the body shop guy is working on the other.

I bet no insurance. But at least in won't effect your rates as it is not your fault.

Well, the new intercooler arrived and looks cool!!!

Course my truck is in the shop for probably two weeks getting the drivers side fixed....oh well. Will report in after install in a couple of weeks. Hopefully I will have bought myself a camera by then.

Tuning in out of curiosity. Im not sure how efficient the factory cooler is but that elbow going through the core support is terrible. Seems like these trucks would really benefit by just getting a smooth radius elbow instead of that crimped piece of crap. I have even thought about making one myself but havent put it on my priority list yet.

I bought the new intercooler as well, they gave me a pretty good deal too. I think they are just wanting to get some out and installed. I put it on last night, took less than an hour. We will see if it makes a difference. I do want to replace the cold pipe it does make no sense how Ford smashed it in there. River City says minor grinding required does anyone know how extensive the process is?

Well finally got my truck out of the body shop, looks better than factory!!

Installed the new Banks intercooler today in about 30 minutes. Piece of cake!!
Fits perfect and definitely is way better quality than the original. Will have it out on the highway tomorrow and see how it runs.

So I was just looking into the CAC tube. I checked out River City and Cobb's....
The one that Cobb's shows is the River City one but costs more. River City makes them and apparently Cobb's resells them at a higher price?

But the real question is, is it worth it? Does anyone have it and have any real world experience / data for it? Just curious.

The new Banks intercooler is great BTW!

Just wondering.... with the new intercooler, have you noticed any difference in your turbo response or boost pressure? Thanks!

I wish I had a more scientific way to compare but I don't. It does seem like the turbos are coming up faster with the new intercooler. I also can hear them whining more than I used to. So I think it definitely is making a difference. Of course right when I got it installed, it started getting cold here so my fuel efficiency for short trips has switched over to horrible winter mode. On the highway after it is warmed up, I am noticing maybe 1/2-1 MPG difference but this is from the lie-o-meter.

That is exactly what I expected to hear. I had the TSB done that replaces the intercooler from ford (with a more restrictive one) and have noticed exactly the opposite. Mine come up slower over a longer rpm and are drowned out by the higher engine rpm needed to get them going.

Glad to hear the Banks unit is much better!
