I have a 2002 Excursion that I just noticed that the rear glass handle will open the glass even when the doors are locked. I can hear the lock actuator function back there when I press lock or unlock, but it won't lock. I have also tried to lock it with the key and it won't lock....
I have not had time to tear it apart to troubleshoot due to other commitments.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? Or does anyone have any reccomendations for me on how to tear it down and troubleshoot? I would hate to have to take it in to the Ford Dealer to fix if it is something I can work through.

Haha, welcome to my world. Mine has done this ever since I got it in Dec.
I finally tore it apart and found the the electric actuator is still working like it is suppose to but the actual locking mechanism is VERY hard to push. I took the actuator off and can lock it manually with a screwdriver if I'm going into walmart or somewhere.
I went by the dealership and the parts guy showed me that the only way I can get that part is to get the whole assembly that included the cables and latches which I don't need and don't want to spend $200 for.
I need to stop by a junk yard or 2 and see if I can find one.
must be a somewhat common issue my 01 is suffering the same issue I'm wondering is it just a lubrication issue maybe some teflon grease would free up the mechanisim
You need to pull the trim off around the inside of the hatch and get in there with a big screwdriver and some penetrating oil. A LITTLE oil, work it all, a little oil , work it, ect ect. They really get jammed up in there so get it all free. It might take a while but it sure beats taking it to the stealership.
Yep, EXv10 has it covered. You need to take the interior trim off the door to get at the mechanism and lube it up some. It is open to too much stuff that comes off the glass and down there to gum things up.
