5.4L Sound

I have always wondered why the 5.4L sounds so much different in the Super Duties than it does in the F150. At least the 2V's do. The Super Duty 5.4L has IMO one of the sweetest sounding exhaust notes. It sounds a little high pitched which I really like.

I dont know about the 3V trucks, but what makes the 2V trucks sound so much different with the same motor?

I think it has something to do with the 250 and 350s having a 3" exhaust system and I believe they have a different cat. setup than the 150s too.

I think you're onto it... I actually like the way the 5.4 sounds on my 01. It had straight pipes when I bought it, which was a little over the top, but even with stock exhaust, it has a pleasing sound. Not rumbly, but different... The truck with the 5.4 is a slouch, but at least it sounds good trying to keep up with the V10, LOL.

I dont know its strange. It sounds completely different though. I wonder if there are some differences in the manifolds or cylinder heads or something.

I know I have a '99 F250 and the stock exhaust diameter is 3 inches.....which may contribute to the louder exhaust note......i'm not sure what the stock diameter is on the F150 But I am assuming its 2 1/2.
