Starter problems 2003 escape

Hello everyone,

I hope someone can help me. Ok, my starter was going out so i replaced it and when i tried to turn it on nothing, nothing at all the battery is a full charge (12.6v). So when i started checking everything i found that there is no power going to the ignition wire for the starter solenoid (the smaller wire) and i believe there should be. Also check relay's and fuses all good and also moved some around to make sure. Tested starter at kragen and test good, I don't know what else to do, start checking wires. If anyone knows what else should i check i would be in your thanks.

Does it have a transmission or is it a slugomatic? If it's a slugomatic, it sounds like a problem with the neutral safety switch

Does it crank when you shift to neutral?

no it does not crank at all in any gear. its an automatic i do not know if it is a slugomatic how do i tell? where is the neutral safety switch at and how can i check to see if that is the problem. Thanks for all the help.

I have a battery load tester that is real handy at times like this. 12.6 volts is a good number, but it still might fail a load test.

If the connections at the battery are clean & tight one simple thing you can try is to add a jumper wire to the cables.

When my 87 Ranger would'nt crank & I added a jumper from the negative battery post to the engine block & it fired right up, I knew that cable was bad.

To be sure you dont jump incorrectly take a quick look at your starter circuit wiring diagram.

OR

Plan B get a jump from another car & see what it does.

BTW, since it wont crank in neutral either, the neutral switch is probably not the problem

A slugomatic IS an automatic

it took a few days but i figured it out, i had a bad wire from ignition switch to the interior fuse panel connector 270d, changed wire all works great thanks all for great ideas.
