Just completed installing a DieselSite coolant fillter on my truck. All things considered it went well. The only problem I had was pulling the air fillter to get to a hose clamp I dropped. I am curious to see what is in the filter after a couple of weeks. I drained off about a gallon and a half of coolant before cutting the lines up top and it seemed a little dirty to me. I have some pics in my profile for those that are curious. I'm thinking my next mod will be a ccv rerout. I am just amazed at how much oil is in the intercooler pipe off the turbo. Mix that oil with soot from the ERG and you have a nice paste to coat the inside of your intake manifold.

I pulled it off to make it a little easier on myself to connect the inlet tube and fitting for the coolant filter. The intercooler pipe runs right over were I put the splice, and rather than work around it, out it came. I probably should have taken a picture of that...

I removed my intercooler pipe when installing my coolant filter...made everything alot easier.
I know what you mean. I didn't realy feel like trying to cut into the coolant lines withe the intercooler pipe in the way. Much easier and quicker just to pull it out.
If you are using 3/8 in lines you can purchase one of the marine inline gas filters with the glass tube from West Marine. Remove the filter element and install it in the coolant filter return line. I used the Napa system on my 04 taping the heater input line and returning the fluid to the line coming from the radiator to the degas. Coolant is now a crystal clear golden color. Installation took about 1hr. Filter is on the frame under the pax seat with a couple of ball valves there to shut off flow for filter changes. Easy and economical. I did this after having the oil and egr coolers replaced due to degas burping. Egr cooler now has a freeze plug in the hot end also no more flow of exhaust through it. Oil cooler was completely obstructed with casting sand. If you want to see a photo of the junk in the cooler drop and email and I will send you one.
I don't expect to lose a lot. When I installed the filter I also instaled two valves, one on the inlet and one on the outlet. So I hope to only lose as much coolant as what is in the filter, and depending on how it looks I will probably pour it back into the system.
