Another '97 cluster question.

As I posted before, I just bought a '97 reg cab, 2.3L, 5 speed Ranger. I got the guy down from 3,500.00 to 2,800.00, so I am happy about that.

My question is, I want a cluster with a tach. I searched till blue in the face and still can't get this straight. I have what looks like a VSS sensor on top of the rear end, and 2 sensors on the trans and what looks like a speedometer cable coming out of the trans. I also want to change the 3 sensors, can someone let me know what they are called and for?

Congrats on the purchase of the truck. That sounds like a good price to pay. I remember when we were "helping" you decide.

There is no need to change those sensors unless you have reason to believe they have failed.

Just swap in a cluster with a tach and you should be good to go.

Do you have pics of anything on the transmission? Pics would help me tell you what each does.

my buddy had the same truck, 5 speed with no tach if your intrested in putting in a aftermarket tack let me know so i can get you a pick of what wire it is that you have to splice into. It's about a 20 minute deal you will spend more time running wires than you will actually messing with it.

I will do what you are saying and wait on the sensors. Autozone gave me the wrong sensor anyway. lol

I think what I was looking at on the trans was the line for the slave cylinder. I will take pics if I have a problem with something.

I think I will look for a cluster with a tack on it. Thanks anyway.

I changed the plugs and wires this weekend. . That was a job. Spilt some blood on this. I don't see how they came up with putting all that stuff in front of the plugs. I think they were the original plugs and wires. Some had the plastic handles sticking up. I had to pull a few things off to get to the back two plugs on the drivers side. I guess you guys that have done this before on the 2.3L, know what I am talking about.

Does anyone know where I could get a '95 to '97 cluster with the tack?
