I can related to your problem. I started chewing while in the military in 1975. I've tried many times to stop but its not that easy. A doctor told me it takes 2 weeks for the nicotine to completely get out of your system. I have drastically reduced the amount i now chew. I only go through 1 can a week now but still have trouble going cold turkey. I guess its because my wife smokes and so do everyone i work with. Keep the faith you you will get through it. Like i'm the one to listen to but you are probably stronger in that more than i am. You have to want to stop, which i guess at 55 years old i do not want to. Send me your APO address and i'll send you some non-nicotine mint chew. Gladly help out any military member i can. After 20 years in the Army, I'll support each and every one of you.
If I'm having a bad time with smoking, I can't imagine what getting off chew is like. I'm glad I never liked it.
One thing I do know is that it's comparable to the difference between getting stoned and mainlining. The strength of the nic dose is a lot higher, which is why it's so much rougher to get away from. It also takes longer to get flushed out of the body.
I know when I started back I was doing hard core bicycling and I went from powering up hills to getting off and walking inside of two weeks.
still going strong. rplatt56 thanks, but i will be leaving here in two weeks. im still having really bad headaches right after i eat. i guess thats my worst craving but ive been chewing sunflower seeds non stop. i think i will be good

Do something to help you sleep. Beer, sex, tv, usually works for me.
Just don't give up. If you haven't had a smoke or a chew in three days then you're doing pretty good. You just whining a little cuz it's hard.
Yep. I helped the man quit chew a few years back...
All I had to do was promise him sex whenever he felt the craving for chew. It worked like a charm. Unfortunately, I wasn't getting much sleep for quite a while. Gets your mind off of it and concentrating on other things.

That's unfortunate, but it works. You say you are leaving in a few weeks, going home to your wife? She wants you to quit, strike a deal.
As someone who chews(got a dip in right now to be honest), it's absolutely a strong addiction. I was a pack a day smoker for a while at my peak, and thankfully, my lungs and throat helped to end that. It's still terrible when I'm drinking, I'll smoke like a chimney as long as I have booze in my system. Nothing like waking up hung over as hell and coughing up some god awful black/brown/yellow **** to help you to want to quit.
My lifestyle and other outside inluences have cut down on my drinking, and I go weeks at a time without really wanting a cigarette.(after eating a meal is the worst)
Dip is another animal. I have gone about a week without any, but the cravings are still there. The head aches can get bad, and I get a pain/pressure behind my jaw in my neck area that will ache until I get some nicotine in my body.
Thankfully, my gums are still healthy(I have a cousin who runs a dental practice) and I'm currently going through about two cans/week, and am working on cutting that down, and hopefully bringing that down to zero.
The sad thing is that I used to run 35-40 miles a week before I started to smoke and drink heavy. Now, I struggle to get 2 miles at a time. That was really a eye opener. All this **** wreaks havoc on your body, not including the cancer.
The hard part is winding down, just keep yourself busy and don't let yourself think about wanting to put in a dip. The minute you start thinking about it, it's already to late.
