A/c clutch disengages at high rpms

Hi guys. I just replaced the clutch and pulley on the compressor on my 99 f-350 powerstroke. All of a sudden the clutch disengages at any rpm above 1500rpm. My air gap is around .020". Any ideas? Thanks a lot.

I would have to check with the help from another person. The reason i changed the clutch and pulley was because my old setup was slipping whenever the outside temp was over 100 degrees. the pair looked like a set of worn out rotors.

It sounds like either the pressure cycling switch on the accumulator has failed or you are low on refrigerant. I have seen the switches fail. It can be changed without discharging the system as there is a tire type valve under the switch.

Disconnect the plug to the pressure cycling switch use a piece of wire and jump those two terminals together and go for a ride. If the compressor no longer disengages at above 1500 rpm's them the system is low on refrigerant. DO NOT continue to run it with the terminals jumped together or you will end up replacing the entire system in very short order. If you do not have a set of guages take it to someone to get the right amount of refrigerant added. In many cases people just "add a can" but to get optimum cooling get it charged correctly.

Awesome. I will try that. Just to be sure, the pressure cycling switch is the one on the field coil correct?

The pressure cycling switch is not on the field coil! The cycling switch is in the line right next to the accumulator. you will know you have unplugged the right connector because the clutch will disengage when you unplug it.
