changing IP procedure and adjustement
it is for a 1990 f250 7.3l
Remove the little plate on the front of the pump mounting housing and remove the two bolts holding the drive gear on to the pump. Now remove the fuel feed line from the filter to the pump and undo all the hard lines at the injectors. Remove the nuts holding the pump on to the housing and withdraw the pump. When fitting the new pump line the dowell on the drive flange with that on the drive gear as you feed the new pump into place. Tighten everything up and bleed the system and that`s it.
Most important thing is don't unmesh the IP drive gear from the cam drive gear.
As long as those gears remain meshed, the timing will stay close to right.
On a NA engine, if you unbolt the injection lines for the injectors, after you remove the IP drive gear bolts, the IP mounting nuts, the fuel supply line, the return fuel line and the throttle cable, you should be able to lift the IP and injection lines out by raising the back first then sliding the IP back while raising everything up.
After you have everything out, then remove the injection lines from the IP.
Also on the IP neck and the IP drive cover you should see a couple scribe lines where they meet.
When those lines are in line, that is correct static timing and the engine should start.
IP scribe line to the passenger side of the IP drive gear cover line is advancing the timing.
