hey everybody, im new to this site so here goes. i have a 86 f250 laramie edition, my heater controls dont work, heat or the A/C dont work nor does the speed control. but when i do turn it to defrost on cold or heat it fogs up my windshield really bad, any pointers would be great.
ya it does and it takes alot of cleaner to get it off the windsheild. i replaced the fan but it still turns at a slow speed no mater what, i dont think the a/c works but ill have to check, 2 weeks ago when i turned it on hi to defrost and it fogged up and smelled electrical fire and smoked hasnt done it again
It sounds like you might have a vacuum leak since it defaults to the defrost position if there is a vacuum leak or if the vacuum motors are disconnected. Do you mean speed control for the fan or do you mean cruise control?
My friends heater core went out before and if you left the heater on for a little while, you could physically see antifreeze leeking in from way up under the dash, just a few drops every now and then. Don't know if you would get the same thing or not but thought I would put my 3 cents in.
It depends on the size of the leak, some will drip onto the cab floor and others will only cause the winfshield to fog horribly.
It sounds like you may have fried that electrical doo-hickey(can't for the life of me remember what it's called.) in the box under the dash. It's a pretty common occurence in these trucks and leaves and pine needles or other stuff falls in and rests on it. It gets pretty hot and will eventually burn all that stuff up.

The fan speed resistor thingy? Here's the one with AC:
