Don't forget to ban/illegalize radio tuning, interacting with passengers, smoking, drinking or snacking, adjusting climate control, looking at landmarks or interesting outdoor objects, or adjusting or seat.
You may think I'm joking but all cause distraction while driving, I have not known of a friend getting into a accident due to cell phones but I have 3 seperate incidents amoung several friends that were due to other distractions. Cell phones are a easy excuse to make a policy about vut the articles I indicated are just as lethal.
Thats true enough too Ryan, some people just cannot do anything but drive, while driving (in regards to adjusting the radio and whatnot)
The problem with handsfree, is your mind is still somewhere else other then driving. Sure your hands are both on the wheel, but say your getting hell from your boss, your most likely not thinking about the road while that is happening.
Some people just cant drive and then you add a cell phone, or whatever to the equation, and you get accidents. I say ban all the crappy drivers!

my points exactly... thats why there's a charge called "driving with undue care and attention"... its basically a blanket offense for being distracted.
Getting a little off topic, I once got a driving with undue care and attention ticket, for having beer bottles glued to the hood of a grad vehicle lol.
The difference with cell phones and texting is you actually do not contrate as much on driving. Cell phones have to be held by hand and you keep looking to to see the numbers you dial while driving with one hand, which takes more time off watching the road. Radios can be preset.
Also hold the cell ph to ones ear thus one hand. If you cradle the phoneon your shoulder , it slips out down between the console and to the floor. Now your really being distartcted.
Texting is worst because a person has to watch what they are typing.
I have tried driving with a cell phone. I find it takes mors of my attention than changing channels on a radio. It is more distracting. So now when I usually get a call while driving. Itell them I will call back when I can stop.
Changing radio channels , smoking , eating, talking to passenger. The ratio of distraction is actually way less than texting or cell ph.s.
When I was young I too had my share of accidents. One was eating a sandwich. Another was I was looking out in a feild at a farmer, turned back and stopped car on highway.
If people actually looked at how much time it takes to dial and text compared to the other things Ryan mentioned. It takes long and more distraction from the road.
You can argue all those other things. We can ban crying babys from backseat of car. Now that is a distraction from expereince. No accident from it thou.
you have no idea Prep... and the sad part is, putting them in the box of the truck is illegal...
I hear you on that one sherm, both our kids were terrible passengers until they were about a year and half. Matthew is just coming out of his funk. Fortunately he prefers the truck and he will even nap once in awhile now.
our little girl travels pretty well usually. in 3 weeks we leave to drive home which will be a test for her-and us!!! i'm hoping for the best, she's a great kid, i just hope i can keep patient if she has some poor miles...
If she travels well now I don't she will give you much trouble. Matthew was not as bad as Amy or we were used to it, but we just dreaded going anywhere with her until she was about 18 months. Now she travels just fine, usually sleeps most of the time.
