so i purchased a rotor, condenser and a contact set from the autoparts store today for my 1962 f100 with a 292 engine, but when i put them all in as instructed, the damn thing didnt work! would not start...
i checked the rotor, and the post (no idea what its really called) is about 1/8 in short. after i put the old rotor in... still no start...
so i put the old parts in, fired right up...
i am wondering if i give the parts numbers if you guys can tell me weather or not they are the wrong series parts?
rotor BWD D198
contact set BWD A101V
condenser BWD G125
i may try it with just the new contact set... maybe its just the wrong condenser? or is this the price i pay for buying cheap parts?
If you like messing with points all the time and setting them and the timing then i goright a head. If your interested in not doing that all the time then I would buy an electronic ignition set from Pertronix Performance Products. very simple install and set up if you can read a wiring diagram. you wont have to mes with the points and condensor anymore. As to what you have going on right know give us some more info and we;ll help you figure it out<
according to the BWD parts book I have, they are the correct parts. A lot of times you can have issues if you do not purchase the cap and rotor together. I have never tried that brand. I have only used Standard blue streak tune up parts for mine. Havent had an issue in 20 years with them.
petronix is the way to go..40,000 volt flame thrower coil..full fire and better starts..runs great..no points..no condenser..you will be glad you did it..instant starts.....idles smoother..better gas mileage....easy to install........
Went w/ Duraspark ll with both 65's but that's another issue. Sounds like may have been given the wrong rotor. There have been few occasions when I have had to return a part. Suggest return the rotor and take the old with you, seems like it would be cheaper; meantime, consider if, or type ign. upgrade. Must admit, no longer have problems starting the 390 beast on a cold winter morning.
