Which one?

Hi all,
I'm getting a Transgo kit before I get a PHP tuner. Joe said I should do the Main/Accumulator VB mods. So, I got in touch with Clay to order my kit (thanks for the quick response). However, it appears there are several different kits available:
89-03 Ford Powerstroke Transgo Tugger Transgo Pump/Accum Kit
Mfg # Tugger

89-03 Ford Powerstroke .670 Line Mod Valve TransgoTugger
Mfg # 670-BFA

99-06 Transgo 45RFE Shift Kit
Mfg # 45SK2

99-03 Ford Powerstroke 4R100 Transgo Shift Kit
Mfg # 4R100-HP-Diesel

Which one should I get to do the main/accumulator VB mods?
Thanks

I've also heard the Transgo Tugger mentioned. Is that what I'm looking for?

I hope I don't get in trouble for this link... I'm still going to buy it from Clay, but this is the only spot I could find an example. Is this the one? http://www.summitracing.com/parts/TR...2/?image=large

I'm still curious about why you don't like the Transgo, Nolan. I haven't pulled the trigger yet, any info would be helpful.

Anyone have the tugger? Just making sure it is the transgo kit that will mod my trans best to handle a chip.

I have the trans go tugger kit in my trans. i put it in when i rebuilt my transmission couple years ago. I personally love it and have no complaints with it. the only thing you need to know is that about half the stuff the kit comes with you won't be able to use because it has alot of stuff that goes inside the trans. now it doesn't matter if that stuff goes in there so don't worry about the extra parts. here is the one you want

http://www.transmissionpartsusa.com/...-026930tug.htm

the only reason nolan suggested a valve body was that they already have this type of shift kit in them. i talked to brian at BTS about his valve body. i told him what i had done to my trans with the shift kit. he didn't come out and say it but i got the impression that all his valve body had in it was this exact kit. he said i wouldn't really benefit from buying one of his VB's due to the fact that i already had the tugger kit installed.

if i had it to do over again i would just buy a VB from either BTS or JW because it is already done and then you just bolt it on.

I have a BTS VB and the big difference is $125. If you want to do the labor of putting the tugger together and drilling the plate and all that, it will save you that money, because BTS and JW VB's cost about $225. There is a member here named Monsterbaby and he has an opinion on this stuff. He is very informed on the subject. Izzy, (Joe) has the tugger kit and he has an opinion as well. I think he says don't go with the tugger if all you want is to basically replicate the BTS VB, or the JW VB, he likes transgo, but he says there is a cheaper kit that they make that will do what you want, if I recall correctly.

Hmmm, I wonder if he is referring to the shift kit? If I understand correctly, the tugger includes pump mods that can't be done without dropping the trans. Anyone know whether I should get the shift kit rather than the tugger?
Thanks

I am sure Izzy will chime in when he gets a chance, or you could PM him or Monsterbaby. They both are very knowledgeable on this matter.

Okay -- I'm here... LOL

There only two kit choices you want to consider. The HD-2 Tugger (~$100) and the HD-2 (~$70). There are a couple differences in the two, and you can decide for yourself if it's worth the ~$40. I did the Tugger, and didn't do all of it. I did the Main & Accumulator mods and couldn't be happier! I must've missed the posts about someone NOT liking it. If they did it right, I can't see how they'd be dissatisfied.

I'll put it this way (like I have before) -- if I bought another truck tomorrow, one of the first mods I'd do is the Tugger. BUT, you have to be comfortable mechanically. It's not hard, but you can't be tearing stuff apart hap-hazardly. I did one bore at a time, and went slowly. The instructions are a little confusing, but just read over it a few times, get to know them, and when you get into the VBs, you'll see they make sense. I'd also say don't bother pulling the solenoid pack. Everyone that has found it didn't need mod'ed. It will save you a lot of time & frustration.

EDIT: Here are links to the two kits:
HD-2 Tugger: http://www.transmissionpartsusa.com/...-026930tug.htm
HD-2: http://www.transmissionpartsusa.com/...-026930hd2.htm

I'm posting these for educational purposes -- I've never dealt with that company, even though they're in the town I grew up in... LOL
