Just went got New shoes for the truck and while they were changing the tires they point out a diff leak This is the last thing I need now cause I need the truck thursday to go get the 450 in oregon. It's not leaking from the cover but from where the drive shaft goes into the diff
I also just noticed that if I come to a complete stop and then go I feel this grinding sensation from my seat? What does this mean
Thanks
Nick
Nick that would be the pinion seal leaking, disconnect the drive shaft and check for freeplay of the pinion shaft. Sometimes the seal just goes bad but other times it is because the pinion bearings are going and that extra play wipes out the seal. The grinding could be the pinion gear shifting around due to bad bearings and grinding on the ring gear. Make sure to check it if you plan on putting any extra load on it as that will compound the problem, Don't tow with it until know it is good. You don't need to have to use the RHN.
This is not real difficult. I think you are still under warranty? I have had seals go bad and one time the only cure was a new yoke. So the leak is not unheard of.
Confirm your fluid level is ok and feel for freeplay to kinda get an idea everything besides the leak is ok.
You could go the extra mile and pull the cover off and take a look at everything. Highly unusal to be having a diff issue.
Which truck are you replacing them in? I could help on the 01. RE-geared mine but the others should really be the same. If you hurry you could fix it before the bearing demolishes the race. And is this truck lifted if so how much and what cab style??
Off subject but would really appreciate a response on the 08 mirrors. Would they bolt up to my 01 doors? Haven't really inspected any yet.
