I have a 86 F150 XLT Lariat 302 on which I am trying to replace the brake booster. The firewall is flat and the back of the new booster is slanted. This make the master cylinder sit at a slanted position and not level. The brake light switch does not work properly either. The brake lights stay on all the time. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks SmittyGa
If the truck is completely stock with stock parts, then going to the store and buying the correct fitting booster should not be a problem, and it should bolt right in. Is there something here you are not telling us?
I'm not sure if completely stock. When I check the vin number it says the engine is a 4.9 6 cylinder but the engine when I bought it is a 5.0 8 cylinder. There is not a problem bolting it in, but the master cylinder is tilted. The rod is tight so I'm assuming that the rod does not have enough room to slide and work the brake switch.
No, I am not sure we got the right booster, but AutoZone says it is. I will try another parts store. I will get back when I have installed a different one.
I went to Advance Auto Parts and the booster from there would not bolt up to the firewall. Got one at O'Reilly's and it fit. Thanks for everyone's help
