I just got my temperature cable operating again but my defroster slide control won't work on my '80 (no AC). Looking under the dash I saw that it appears the cable is off the pivot/shaft and the activation arm (3 position slider control). Can anyone tell me if some kind of plastic washer holds the cable on and what keeps the slider arm against the pin. I had it working somewhat by holding it together, but now it won't move. It seems to get stuck against the wiring to the panel illumination bulb. Can this be replaced by an OEM or other part or is it off to the salvage yard?
I'll check out a Ford dealer. It may be that the F600-700 large trucks that used the '80 - '86 dash into the '90s also used these controls so a new one may be available.
Thanks for the suggestion 81-F-150-Explorer. I'll try that if I can't locate one. I had made a plate that captured the cable and slider and it seemed to work for a while but failed in the end.
