I've been looking at some threads and can't find an answer. What is the difference between 4 hi and 4 hi lock on the transfer case? First one I had like this.
The Np203 is a full time transfer case and is equiped with a differential within the case itself. This helps to prevent the truck from hopping or chirping the tires when the vehicle is on dry ground and the truck makes a turn. The front wheels have to rotate at a different rate than the rear so the differential makes up the difference.
This is normal operation when the vehicle is in either low or high range.
When Loc is selected, the differential in the case is locked and equal output is sent to both front a rear driveshafts. This is to provide an equal amount of power to both axles, but will bark, chirp or chatter when this is performed on dry ground or a high traction condition.
