I looked at the way the intake was designed today. I originally thought that the intake had a direct line of air from that little hole designed into the grill, but no. First chance I get, I am going to try and get the hole cut directly in front of where the "snooter" (lol) is. Only problem is I worry about moisture, but I'm sure there must be some way to put a piece of foam or some sort of filtering material and tacking it over the hole.

I was wondering if there is a way to fashion some kind of snorkel that goes down to the slot in the bumper. I have seen similar applications for other trucks but none for the Super Duty/Excursion.

See, the thing that pisses me off is that both Volant and Banks make scoops for their intakes, but nothing for the Super Duty, or at least the V10.
I would rather have the airbox intake up high away from all the road crap, water and snow. It would suck to bury the bumper in snow and plug the intake up. The road surface gets hot in the summer too.
I like that. Away from road heat, hard for water to get in there and if you pack it with snow you probably have bigger problems to worry about. When the trucks moving the intake temps will be ambient. My K&N FIPK with 2 holes drilled in the grill shows the same intake temp as the outside air when I'm moving.
I did the same mod with the holes, cut the air box and k&N filter, I am now running ford motorsport headers and a custom magnaflow duel exhaust. I would not put headers on unless you have to. My exhaust studs were broken so I replaced the whole nine yards. It runs better than stock.

Already did the headers. And I would suggest headers for everyone, although it is a pain in the ***, or have a trusted mechanic do it, it really does help in the long run.
I made a block off plate on the back side for heavy rain and road wash going down the freeway. No snow where i live.
I did the same thing on mine, but its permanent. I took some 1/8" neoprene rubber and those plastic push in tree clips. The heavy rain will hit the rubber but the air will go under. I noticed my air filter got some water on it without the rubber in very heavy rain while driving on the highway. The outwears cover on the filter beads up the water pretty good though.
