hello, can anyone tell me about the two plugged holes on the factory oil filter adapter on my 88 460 block ? I am looking to install an oil cooler and wanted to know if I could just run a line off of one of these holes to my oil cooler and another line from the oil cooler back to the other hole on the adapter, or if I am going to have to pull my oilpan off and drill it out for a return line?
If you have the adapter, where the filter sits at an angle & the two plugged holes look to be say 1/2" size, you might could go to a junk yard some where & pick up the hoses & coil from an old junk motorhome & hook them right up.
Look on the adapter & see if theres a big cap looking nut on one side, looks like a bolt head propbably 3/4" in size.
Should look as though where that cap nut is at, like the hole is straight through. Best I can remember, that cap nut has a relief spring & ball behind it so if its got that, your already half way to having the oil cooler system.

ok, i am talking about the two holes that are plugged by allen-head plugs. not the big 3/4" bolt that goes all the way through the adapter. are these two holes both outputs, or is one an input and the other an output?
How those holes would work, one would be from the oil pump side into the hose & the other would be into & through the oil filter.
The cap bolt I was talking about, not the big hollow bolt holding the adapter to the block but another one.
You can pull the adapter off easy to check it out inside & see which way those holes will flow oil. That hollow bolt holds it to the engine & theres an o ring inside sealing the adapter to the block. Just be sure to put some lock tight on the threads of that bolt when you put it back on. Dont do like I did & not put any on & it come loose going down the road.
That adapter get loose & she'll blow 5 qts of oil out quicking than a cat can lick its tail.
