Question Car to Truck motor

Can I use a 4.6L from a '05 Crown Vic in a '97 F-150? The VIN from the F150 is 1FTDX186 the VIN from the Vic is 2FAHP71W.

The F150 is XLT 4x4 with 280k miles. Low compression in cyl 8, causing 308 OBDC error, and periodic flashing off the check engine light.

If I can't used the '05 motor, then how about the engine from a '98 F-150 with a VIN of 1FTZX18W.

Thanks

Your truck is a Windsor

The Police Interceptor is a Romeo

The 98 F150 is a Romeo

Sorry, no match. I can't tell you about interchanging a Romeo for a Windsor but it has been discussed here in the past. Check out some old posts.

According to earlier posts

I should be able to use the '98 F150 Romeo to replace my '97 F-150 Windsor.

So now the real question is can I use the 2005 Romeo from the Crown Vic to replace the '97 F-150 Windsor 4.6L? Is there a difference between car and truck motors, or is a 4.6 a 4.6?

Then 2005 has only 40k miles on it.

Yes,it can be done, and is not a big deal.
Use your truck timing cover, intake manifold, exhaust manifolds, oil pan, etc.
You might have to do a bit of port matching to the NPI intake for use with the PI heads,or find a PI 4.6L truck intake from '00-up.
