well i dont know if i should thank or curse you guys for giving me the know how and confidence to install my wicked wheel.[sore ribs &back]
just joking. theres something about being able to wrench on your own stuff.
i had a local guy who was going to charge me $180 to put it in. but Clay at riffraff was all you can do it.
but now i have an extra $180 to spend on parts from him.
he has a new boost fooler about ready for sale. i have one spoken for .and a y pipe heater deleate plug tapped for boost gauge also.
i started this morning early and slow .took off the cooler pipe and after about an hour had all the foil and insulation off it.
i went ahead and took the hot wire and ground wire off the intake heater so ill be a little ahead when i get the deleate plug in.
my dad came by to help me out, 39 years old and i still need his help, he and i have always been close.
he had a good laugh my hood is 5 foot 3 inches tall and im 5 foot 6. so i had a book shelf in front of my truck with an old house door from it over to the hood so i could lay down and work but man or my ribs sore where i was on the truck.
i had the down tube changed out to 4 inch 2 weeks ago to tie into my 4 inch exaust. so the clamps came off kinda easy.
i got the old wheel out and the new one in pretty easy.
it took a while to clean up all the boots , piping , clamps.
i was suprised to see how much oil and crap was inside all the intercooler pipe.
i drove about 100 miles tonight to see how it would do and man does it scream, i like the whistle it has going through the gears and crusing at around 70 it has a great sound. most of all my turo lag is gone. drove in 80E and 120R and it has no chuffing or lag. i cant tell any effect to low end torque . it still jumps off the line good and builds up fast.
now i think i should deleate the muffler and see how that sounds.
all in all it was a good day spent working with my dad and the mods were well worth the sore ribs and aching back.
no joke guys thank you all for the straight info i have got here.
and thanks to Clay for taking the time on the phone to explain to a welder how to work on diesels..
you guys rock!
Don Smith
Hey, I'm 39 too and my Dad helped me do my WW a few weeks ago. He was a hurting unit afterward too let me tell you. Glad you got her done. It feels good to do those types of things and get it done yourself. Saving money and knowing it was done right is always worth it when all is said and done.
I am really glad it all worked out for you man. I knew you would be happy to get it done yourself and save some cash in the process. We will have you rebuilding your turbo next FTE is an awesome place!
but now i have an extra $180 to spend on parts from him.
Now you understand why so many of us have a supporter badge next to our user names. $20 for a badge is cheap compared to the money you would spend having someone else do this stuff for you.

If he's still sore, I know a good chiropractor I could refer him to.

dealing with riffraff parts is like tattoos and pringles chips... you cant have just one.
