Just picked up a 1999 F250 SD Super Cab today and the Door Ajar light on the dash is staying on, with all the doors closed and cloked. The dome light is on also, untill I hit 15mph, then it goes off. Slow down to about 10 and it comes on again......15 it goes off. About the only kind of switch I can see are levers on the face of the mini doors. How does one track this problem down?
ditto. I had the same problem with my 99. Cab lights would stay on till they timed out. Noticed later that previous owner pulled all dome lightbulbs out. Just spray heavy and work the latch a dozen times or so. It will clear up. Then check to see if your bulbs are all in place.
Note to previous owner of my 99 - It took you more time to pull all the bulbs than it did for me to fix the problem.
Must have not sprayed heavy enough, they went off for about 5 minutes then came right back on. Will try again tomorrow. It might take a couple cans of WD40 this beast has a lot of latches, wish I knew exactly which ones to spray. On my Super Cab that has the two rear mini doors, what is the little black lever next to the opening handle on the little doors?
Mine came on after about five minutes also the first time I sprayed them with WD40. I actually bought some spray silicone to use after the WD40 but it didn't help. I just pulled the bulbs again and have sprayed a couple more time to hopefully get all the gunk out. I wish that I would have researched it alittle more because I have had all four actuators (01 250 CC) out to fix the power door locks. I could have fiddled with the sensor while I had them out. :-(
I popped a fuse also the last time I took out the bulbs. That was a silly headache. I bought the truck used and it didn't come with a manual. I found the link on-line thanks to FTE!!! When I pulled out the bulb the fuse that blew also contoled the power windows. I looked for the fuse for the power windows and it was controled by a circuit breaker style fuse under the hood. I went searched for a new one of those but luckly it was just one of the cheapo "mini"fuses under the dash.
I had a similar problem. It turned out to be a switch in part of the door latch assy. I could not, for the life of me, get my hands inside the door to check the connection so I took it to the dealer. An $18 switch and an hour of dealer labor later, problem solved. Was way cheaper than trying to disassemble the door latch myself.....it would still be in pieces in the garage if that were the case.
BTW, I sprayed a large can of WD-40 into that door latch prior to the trip to the dealer, to no avail.
A lot of penetrating oil is never needed. After the first covering it all goes to waste. The trick is to spray a little and wait or work it in and repeat. It's like hosing some dust off your fender, after it's off, it's off.
