I have a 99 f-250 super duty with 180k, I have never had a problem with this truck until recent. At first it started when driving in town, it acted as though it was starved for fuel, got it home and went to start it and it idles real rough, again as if it is starved for fuel, but, while idling, I open the water seperator valve, just a tiny bit, it will idle fine, leaks fuel but idles fine.
I have replace the fuel pump on the frame, cam positionig sensor, seals on the incoming, return and feed fuel lines.
I've been out off work for 2 years now and cannot afford to take it to the shop, any help will be greatly appreciated.
I think you may have an injector or injectors going bad. I hope not, that can get expensive. I did that about a year and ago too, had 3 injectors go bad so just rebuilt them all.
it continues even after it's warmed up, the other day I started it and it idled fine for about a half hour, shut it off, started it again moved it around the yard, shut it off, came out an hour later and it idled like #^@^, you can accelerate to keep it running, but as soon as you let up, it dies, unless you open the drain just a bit.
I have no idea why it would improve, Are there any other pressure relief valves, or sensors, ?
There's one off the filter/seperator, it's spring loaded, on the fuel return line back to tank
It shouldn't be to bad, how low on fuel are you. It does suck up air but you may also have a leak somewhere. I haven't taken the fuel tank apart on my truck yet but there is a few mods you can do to helop minimize the air it picks up. You may find your problem by doing those mods.
Hutch and harpoon mods, search for them.
Is there any fuel leaking from the top or inbetween the valley on your truck?
